Cotswolds Visitor Giving Scheme: Caring for the Cotswolds

Go Cotswolds is proud to support the Caring for the Cotswolds visitor giving scheme.

The Cotswolds National Landscape, formerly known as the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is also the name of the team responsible for managing this protected area. Covering almost 800 square miles, the Cotswolds National Landscape is the largest protected area in England after the Lake District and Yorkshire Moors National Parks.

The Caring for the Cotswolds visitor giving scheme was launched back in 2015, and Go Cotswolds has been a member since 2016.

With every purchase you make on the Go Cotswolds website, you can add an optional donation to the Caring for the Cotswolds visitor giving scheme in multiple of £1. Every penny you donate is used to fund projects that conserve and preserve the Cotswolds for future generations.

Moreover, we at Go Cotswolds will match-fund your donations pound for pound. So, for example, if you donate £1, so do we! So, thanks to our very generous customers, we’ve contributed thousands of pounds to the scheme so far.

Projects funded under the scheme include things like:

  • Restoring natural habitats, for example, woodlands, wild flower meadows, ponds and rivers
  • Protecting endangered and threatened species, such as plants, insects and birds
  • Planting trees to re-wild landscapes
  • Installing visitor signage, maps and trail markers so that visitors can connect with the landscape
  • Improving access to trails, footpaths and public rights of way so that people from all walks of life can enjoy them
  • Educational projects for local schools to engage with local communities and raise future stewards of the Cotswolds
  • And much more!

Why we care for the Cotswolds

Tourism and tourists can have a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, as a small family business and locals to the area, we want to do whatever we can to minimise that impact. At Go Cotswolds, we firmly believe in responsible, sustainable tourism, and we think it’s important for businesses like us to contribute to this scheme.

For more information about the scheme, please head to the Caring for the Cotswolds page on the Cotswolds National Landscape website. Watch the video below to see Tom talking about signing up to the scheme back in 2015!
