Here’s what happened on our latest tour..
Our final Purity Brewery and Cotswolds pub tour of 2016 took place on the 3rd of December and – as seems to be the norm for the tours closest to Christmas – it was a very festive and fun afternoon with a fantastic group of people!
The group was a heady mix of friends from Evesham celebrating their friend’s impending nuptials, a Purity loving Wasps rugby fan from London and a New Yorker with a thirst for hops and a true English adventure.
Arriving at the brewery in time for the 10.30am tour, John – Purity’s front of house manager and guide to their award winning tours – took the group on a fascinating 90-minute journey through the brewery.
Covering all sorts of insights including the brewery’s history, the beer making process and their commitment to operating sustainably the tour culminated in a tasting in Purity’s rustic bar.
This tour was particularly special as it coincided with the release of Purity’s newest beer – Bunny Hop ale (3.8%) – which the group gave a unanimous thumbs up to!
After the brewery (and replete with an addition to the group – see picture!) we headed for The Golden Cross in Ardens Grafton.
Under new ownership the Golden Cross provided us with a fantastic feast of homemade and locally sourced food which we tucked into in their festively decorated bar next to the log fire.
After the Golden Cross we then headed to Chipping Campden where we left the group to their own devices with maps provided by us. Here our groups have the option to explore the town or head to one of the five fantastic pubs on offer to sample a wide range of local, national and international beers.
This is always a leisurely stop for over an hour and a half and this particular tour group all headed straight to The Volunteer to watch England vs. Australia in the rugby whilst sampling a few more beers. A thumping victory for England certainly ensured that the group were in high spirits when we collected them and headed to our final stop of the day!
With so many fantastic pubs to choose from the final pub is rarely the same on our brewery and pub but for this tour we headed to The Ebrington Arms – a true Cotswolds country pub up in the Yubberton hills. And with its open log fire, sociable staff and cosy alcoves all accompanied by their very own brand of beer (Yubberton Brewing Co.) it proved to be a popular final stop. In fact, it’s safe to say that the group would have happily stayed there all evening! But unfortunately it was time for the tour to end so after prizing the group away from Ebrington Arms we headed back to Stratford-upon-Avon.
Another hugely enjoyable day of craft beer, locally sourced food and traditional Cotswolds pubs. Roll on the next one!
