A few weeks ago we wrote a post wishing good luck to Cotswolds Olympic rower Matt Gotrel before he and his 7 team mates raced in the final of the Mens Eight rowing event at the Rio Olympics.
Well, they only went and won! A huge congratulations to Matt and his fellow team mates from all at Go Cotswolds.
And last night was a night of celebration for Matt in his home town of Chipping Campden – a town we visit on our tours of the Cotswolds – as The Cotswolds House Hotel welcomed him home with an event hosted in their Montrose Suite.
Sadly, we couldn’t attend the event itself (perhaps inspired by his Rio exploits I’d already made plans to do some sport myself last night!) but we were there for his arrival along with 100s of other enthusiastic well wishers and an ITV film crew.
We’re huge fans of the Olympics and found the achievements of the British athletes nothing short of inspiring. It appears we weren’t the only ones as it was great to see the welcome Matt received last night in Chipping Campden – gold medal draped around his neck of course! Many of the shops had also got into the spirit during the day by dressing their windows in Union flags and messages for the Olympic Champion. It was clearly a very proud day for the town of Chipping Campden!
