Celebrate English Tourism Week 2025 with us!
What is it?
English Tourism Week 2025 is an annual celebration highlighting the significance and value of tourism to England’s economy, local communities, and heritage. It’s organised and driven by VisitEngland, the official tourism board for England.
This year, English Tourism Week takes place from March 14th to 23rd, 2025, and has the theme: “Supporting people and places to drive growth.”
Why Does English Tourism Matter?
Obviously tourism took a massive hit during the Covid years, with many attractions and tourism-based businesses having to close their doors forever. Therefore, it was more important than ever to make sure the tourism industry bounced back.
In 2024, According to VisitBritain, the UK welcomed an estimated 41.2 million inbound visits in 2024, with international tourists spending approximately £31.5 billion.
English Tourism Week serves to:
- Highlight Economic Contributions: Showcase the industry’s role in boosting local and national economies.
- Promote Community Engagement: Encourage residents and locals to discover and explore local attractions, fostering community pride and support for local businesses.
- Raise Awareness: Educate stakeholders, including government officials and the media, about the challenges and opportunities within the tourism sector. Getting support where it is needed most and helping visitor attractions to thrive.
How Can You Participate?
- Explore Local Attractions: Visit museums, parks, and heritage sites in your area to appreciate the rich cultural tapestry of England.
- Share Your Experiences: Use social media platforms to share your travels and support for English tourism using the hashtag #EnglishTourismWeek25.
- Support Local Businesses: Choose local eateries, shops, and accommodations to bolster the local economy and experience authentic regional offerings.
Support English Tourism with Go Cotswolds
We also give back in order to keep this beautiful region thriving as a tourist destination:
- We support the ‘Caring for the Cotswolds‘ visitor giving scheme so we can contribute to the conservation and preservation of the Cotswolds.
- We are members of Good Journey because we think car-free travel and tourism is important for the planet.
- We are members of the Cotswold Way Association, because as users of the Cotswold Way and other footpaths in the area, we are proud to support the amazing work of the Cotswolds Voluntary Wardens.
- We donate to The Rollright Trust, because as frequent visitors to The Rollright Stones, a fascinating, ancient Cotswold monument, we believe it’s important to contribute to its upkeep (many don’t 😥)
- We are members of three Visit Britain-accredited tourism organisations: Cotswolds Tourism, Shakespeare’s England and Experience Oxfordshire, which promote responsible tourism in our area.
- We support local charities because we want to look after people and the planet.
