It is possible to visit Bath independently by taking an indirect train from Moreton-in-Marsh. However, on this tour you can get to visit two must-see villages in the Cotswolds as well!
Bath & The Southern Cotswolds from Moreton-in-Marsh
Your day will begin at Moreton-in-Marsh railway station, which is a pick up point for all our small group tours.
Here, at 9.30AM, you’ll arrive to meet your driver-guide and check in for the tour. Some passengers will already be on board, having travelled from our first pick up point in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Moreton-in-Marsh rail station is within easy walking distance of most hotels and accommodation providers in Moreton-in-Marsh. If you’re coming from London, Reading or Oxford, you can take a direct train to Moreton-in-Marsh. if you’re coming from out of town by car, then there’s a large car park right here, and another just around the corner. Local buses from towns/villages like Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water stop right outside the station too.
Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy the stunning journey through the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as we make our way to the city of Bath.
The journey from Moreton-in-Marsh to our first stop, Tetbury, takes around 1.5 hours, but the time will whizz by! The views from the panoramic windows of our comfy Mercedes minibuses are glorious. Plus, one of our fun, friendly guides will tell you all about the amazing history, geography and culture of the Cotswolds as we go. All our guides are local to the area, so they have plenty of fun, personal stories to tell, and can answer all your questions!
Travel to Bath from Moreton-in-Marsh in comfort and style
At this point, it’s worth noting that we don’t have ordinary, run-of-the-mill minibuses!
Our executive class Mercedes Sprinter minibuses can comfortably seat up to 16 people, with comfy, spacious, reclining coach-style seats. All our vehicles are fully air conditioned, have USB charging points, an on-board speaker system, and – safety first – seatbelts for everyone. There’s plenty of room for small bags and coats on the overhead shelf, and if you’re bringing bigger bags, then we have a large luggage compartment in the back too.
Did we mention the panoramic windows? No matter where you sit, you’ll get a great view!
First stop: Tetbury
Home to none other than King Charles III, Tetbury is a charming market town in the southern region of the Cotswolds. The bright yellow Market House has dominated the town centre since the 1600s, and is still used as a marketplace today.
In fact, shopping is high on the list of Things to Do in Tetbury! As the self-confessed ‘Antiques Capital of the Cotswolds’, Tetbury is home to many wonderful boutiques, galleries and independent shops, as well as artisan bakeries, tea-rooms and cafes to get some great coffee and cake! Fans of the Royal Family will not want to miss the Highgrove Estate gift shop, too.
Arrival in Bath
Our first stop in Bath is at the iconic Royal Crescent. We’ll spend around 15 minutes here, which is just enough time to admire this beautiful curved terrace of Grade 1 listed buildings. Widely regarded as the greatest example of Georgian architecture in England, Royal Crescent has plenty of secrets to reveal, and is very photogenic!
Next, we’ll hop back in the minibus and drive a short distance to the centre of Bath. We’ll drop you off near to the famous Bath Abbey and Roman Baths, and you’ll have around 2 hours 45 minutes of free time to explore this lovely, compact city at your leisure.
There’s so much to see and do in Bath, you won’t have time to do it all. However, high on many visitors’ wish lists is a visit to the famous Roman Baths, the spectacular Bath Abbey, a stroll across the iconic Pulteney Bridge, or a stop at the Jane Austen Centre to learn about one of Bath’s most famous literary residents!
To keep things simple, affordable, and to suit as many people as possible, we don’t include entry to any attractions in the price of a tour ticket. But if you’d like to visit the Roman Baths or Jane Austen Centre, we recommend you book tickets in advance, for a time-slot somewhere between 12.30 and 14.30.
We’ll also give you one of our unique Go Cotswolds maps of the city, pointing out a self-guided walking tour of recommended sights, places to shop, eat and drink. Lunch isn’t included in the tour price, so you’re welcome to bring a picnic, but the many independent tea-rooms, cafes and pubs can be hard to resist!
On to Castle Combe!
Over the years, so many people have asked us about visiting the village of Castle Combe. We’ve listened to you!
What Castle Combe lacks in size, it more than makes up for in beauty. In this tiny village, with its picturesque bridge and ancient buildings, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. In fact, a local bylaw prohibits home-owners from adding ‘modern paraphernalia’ such as a satellite dishes and external wires to their homes, so it really does feel like a bygone era.
Thirty minutes here may not seem like a long time, but trust us, Castle Combe is so small, it’s plenty of time to explore!
Homeward bound
From Castle Combe, it’s a 1.5 hour drive to Moreton-in-Marsh, again winding through the beautiful Cotswolds countryside. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride! We get back to Moreton-in-Marsh by approximately 17.30, and to Stratford-upon-Avon by 18.00. It’s a long day, but so worth it!
